Detailed Description

A* Pathfinding implementation for 2D and 3D grids.

Author: Castagnier Mickael

Version: 1.0

Date: 01/03/2026

Uses a binary min-heap as the open list priority queue for O(log n) insert/extract operations, and a flat array for O(1) closed-set membership checks.

Based on:

  • GameDev.net Article 2003: "A* Pathfinding for Beginners"

     * is not found through this window (returns NULL). For bounded game
     * paths that never happens; raise ASTAR_SEARCH_MARGIN if a caller needs
     * wider detours.
     *
     * calloc keeps zero-initialised cells (ASTAR_NODE_NONE == 0 == the
